STEWARDSHIP

In response to your membership vows — “Will you be loyal to the United Methodist Church, and will you faithfully participate in its ministries by your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness?” And, we all answered, “I will.”

SERVICE

There are many opportunities to serve your church family, the Columbus community, and Colorado County with prayer, as well as, acts of service. In addition to nominated committees of the church, there are a variety of volunteer ministries organized through the First United Methodist Church of Columbus that offer opportunities for all laity to serve.

The following pages briefly describe ministries of the First United Methodist Church of Columbus. Please consider these various ministries, pray about them, and see where God is leading you to be of service to His Kingdom. There is something for everyone!

Areas to Serve the Church

Bereavement Committee: This group of volunteers provide a light meal for families following a funeral or memorial service. You can assist the committee with the set up and serving of the meal the day of the service; or you may contribute to the meal by providing sandwiches, cookies or cake and delivering them to the church prior to the meal. Volunteers are always needed, welcomed, and very much appreciated by the Committee and the bereaved family.

Office Support: (Fold Letters/Correspondence):  This is a group of volunteers that help fold and assemble the church newsletter each month, as well as additional church mailings if needed. Contact the church office if you would like to assist with this endeavor on an as needed basis.

Kairos: The people involved in Kairos prison ministry are called by God to share the love of Christ with those  impacted by incarceration. Kairos encourages believers from a variety of Christian     traditions to be volunteers in this Christ-filled ministry. The mission of the Kairos Prison Ministry is to bring Christ’s love and forgiveness to all incarcerated individuals, their families and those who work with them, and to assist in the transition of becoming a productive citizen. Kairos offers the opportunity to receive God’s forgiveness through faith in Jesus Christ, and to grow in their faith and servant hood in Christian community. The Kairos Prison Ministry also needs volunteers to assist with baking cookies for the incarcerated men and women.
